Roasted Chipotle Salsa (Can or Freeze) | AnOregonCottage.com
Here's how I make my favorite roasted chipotle salsa. I use canned chipotles in adobo sauce, which adds a smokey depth - and a bit more spice. Make a big batch to water-bath can. Or you can freeze it. Or make a smaller batch to eat right away.

    Wondering about the fiber content. The printed recipe says 0.8 fiber each roll but I calculate much more. A quarter cup of whole wheat flour has 3 grams, so a cup would have 12 and if you use the whole five cups of flour that is 60 grams of fiber, right? Divided by 24 should be 2.5 grams of fiber each. Okay so I have always been bad at math but isn't it more than 0.8? The reason I want to make whole wheat dinner rolls is to get more fiber in our diets.

    I had many successes with the air rifle. Only works when you see a new earth mound coming up, and the digging only lasts about 30 minutes. It won't work if the mound is hours old. Clear the mound to open the tunnel, then wait with the barrel down the tunnel. Usually I only need to wait 10 or 15 minutes, and you need to be quick on the trigger. The pest will dart in the tunnel or throw dirt at the opening. The problem is you don't often see a mound actively coming up. Tried gopher hawk with no success so far.

    I get free wood chips/mulch and “compost” (mixed leaves and wood chips only) from our local compost facility. I highly recommend looking into local city or county resources for stuff like this. There’s even this like outreach center where I can get free soil tests and talk to someone about garden questions and they have classes and all sorts of stuff! I do live in a farming community so maybe we have more resources than if you lived in a city, but it never hurts to check.

      I wish we had that! We have one that mainly has leaves available, but I don't like the way they're compacted. Occasionally they'll have wood chips but they go fast in our community! I've signed up for Chip Drop two years now and have never had one contact me, though I know it works for other people. I do keep checking around!

    Great idea! If there is a little wrinkling even when the glue has dried, have you tried pre-dampening the paper, to the point it expands before laying it? (Need to be careful not to soak it so it falls apart) Damp paper will take water-based glue ok and will shrink & tighten up as it dries. Water-colour painters use this concept to ensure their paper remains flat & drum-tight even when soaked with water-colour paint.

    What about adding actual bottled peanut oil to the stiff part of the jarred peanut butter, makes it easier to loosen up if using say a butter knife to mix it in there. Also allows control of the viscosity depending on how much is added. Peanut oil is expensive-ish but not overtly so, typically $7-8 a liter, unless if you go to a Whole Foods or health food store those are more $.

    • @AnOregonCottage
      @AnOregonCottage Месяц назад

      I guess you could try that - I've added back some I've poured of when needed. I usually don't have a problem with too little oil, just too much making the PB too runny to stay on toast.

      @@AnOregonCottage Sometimes what happens though is the user might be apt to not wont to mix it together as is supposed to when the oil is at the top, going in maybe only 1/3 of the way down, and then, when he or she does get to the lower half (days later), it may be found to be seriously lacking viscosity, and thus, once again, he or she, finding a base of a close to solid aggregate, may be left with only the most palatable solution of…adding the separate peanut oil to remix. To stop it from foaming up when you pour it you should keep your glass in the fridge or preferably the freezer, works well for me. And the initial geyser of soda using the clip lids is why I use screw top bottles for all of my fermented drinks. You can slowly unscrew the lid only so far as to start releasing small amounts of gas and if it looks like it’s foaming up to the point it’ll start spraying you can just tighten up the lid, wait for it to calm down and then repeat until you can remove the lid.

      That's a good idea to use screw top lids that way! I have now figured out a way to slowly release the gas with the flip top lids, too, so I don't get the geysers (and I hadn't really before this - I think my grains were really active for some reason at this time).

    That’s awesome! I wish I would of known about this a few years ago! My mom’s house had just a concrete floor for about 5 years until she was able to afford to get flooring. This would have been such a better solution!

      Definitely a nice bridge between flooring for sure even if you didn't keep it!

    I'm also in Oregon. I've made kombucha, but it's been years since I made kefir.

      Hello fellow Oregonian! I find kefir so much easier...
